Description
Sitio de Valdehermoso | DO Ribera del Duero, Spain
Sitio de Valdehermoso is a fresh and expressive Ribera del Duero with juicy dark fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins, made for drinking rather than waiting for a special occasion.
Made from 100% Tinta del País, the grapes come from the Valdehermoso site in Roa, where the vineyards grow across a varied mix of sand, gravel, clay and limestone soils.
Valderiz takes a gentle approach in the cellar. Fermentation starts naturally with native yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in concrete. The wine then spends 9 months in French oak barrels, mainly previously used, giving it extra texture and spice without overwhelming the fruit.
The result is exactly the sort of Ribera del Duero that’s easy to love: ripe fruit, freshness and enough structure to give it character, but without excessive weight or oak.
It’s a versatile red for the table too — polished enough for dinner, but relaxed enough to open simply because you fancy a good bottle of Ribera.

A wonderfully approachable Ribera del Duero with plenty of fruit and character but no unnecessary heaviness. The short French-oak ageing adds polish while keeping the Tempranillo fresh and lively.
About the Producer
Bodegas y Viñedos Valderiz is a family estate based in Roa, Burgos, in the heart of Ribera del Duero.
The family’s approach starts in the vineyard. Valderiz works organically and uses biodynamic techniques to encourage healthy vineyards and naturally occurring yeasts. In the winery, those native yeasts allow spontaneous fermentation without relying on commercial yeasts.
Winemaking is deliberately gentle. Valderiz avoids aggressive extraction and says it does not add acidifiers, commercial tannins or enzymes. The winery works with concrete as well as different sizes and styles of oak, with the aim of producing elegant, silky and complex wines in which the grape remains the protagonist.
Sitio de Valdehermoso also has a lovely family story behind its label. One of the Esteban brothers’ grandfathers kept greyhounds for hunting, and the dog pictured on the bottle was included as a tribute to him. Valderiz describes the wine itself as fine, tasty and long on the palate.
