Description
Canalizo | DO Jumilla, Spain
Canalizo is one of the more serious reds from Bodegas Carchelo, but that doesn’t mean you need to sit there analysing it. This is a rich, smooth and beautifully mature Jumilla red that’s simply very satisfying to drink.
Made from Monastrell, Syrah and Tempranillo, it has plenty of ripe dark fruit alongside warm spice, vanilla and subtle earthy notes. The long ageing adds depth and softness while allowing the fruit to stay present.
On the palate, Canalizo is generous and silky. The tannins feel polished, while fresh acidity keeps the wine balanced. You’ll find dark fruit, spice and a gentle savoury character that lingers beautifully after each sip.
This is definitely a bottle for a good dinner. Bring out the roast lamb, grilled steak or mature cheese and give the wine a little time in the glass. It’s powerful enough for rich food, yet smooth enough to make that second glass very tempting.

About the Producer
Bodegas Carchelo is a family winery located at the foot of the Sierra del Carche in Jumilla, Murcia. The winery was founded in 1990 and has spent more than 30 years building its identity around the vineyards and landscape of this part of Jumilla.
Monastrell is at the heart of Carchelo, but the winery also grows varieties including Syrah, Tempranillo and Garnacha. Its vineyards sit across different sites around the Sierra del Carche, where altitude, limestone-rich soils and strong temperature changes between day and night help the grapes retain freshness.
Carchelo focuses on wines with plenty of Mediterranean character while keeping balance and elegance firmly in the picture. Today, the winery also works organically and produces vegan wines.
Canalizo sits at the richer and more mature end of the Carchelo range. Its long ageing gives the wine depth and silky texture, while Monastrell keeps that unmistakable connection to Jumilla.
It’s a wine for anyone who likes a proper, full-flavoured Spanish red, but still wants elegance rather than sheer weight.
