Description
Figuero | DO Ribera del Duero, Spain
Figuero is an elegant and beautifully balanced Ribera del Duero, bringing together ripe red and black fruit, warm spice and silky tannins with a long, polished finish.
Made from 100% Tempranillo, the fruit comes from the García Figuero family’s vineyards around La Horra in Burgos, one of the most recognised wine-growing villages in Ribera del Duero. Figuero calls this its vino de pueblo — a wine created to express the character of its home village rather than simply the influence of oak.
The grapes are harvested by hand and handled using the winery’s gravity-fed system. The wine then spends 12 months in oak barrels, adding depth and spice while allowing the Tempranillo fruit to remain expressive.
The style is generous but fresh. Red and dark berries meet notes of pepper, nutmeg, clove, cocoa and liquorice. On the palate, smooth tannins and good structure give the wine a wonderfully velvety feel, followed by a long and elegant finish.
It’s a lovely step up when you want a Ribera del Duero with more depth and complexity, but without moving into an overly powerful or heavily oaked style.

About the Producer
Figuero is a family winery in La Horra, Burgos, created by the García Figuero family in 2001 after generations of working with vineyards in Ribera del Duero.
The family’s philosophy centres on its vineyards around La Horra and, above all, on Tempranillo. More than 110 individual plots lie within a small radius of the winery, allowing Figuero to produce different expressions of the grape according to vineyard age and location.
Their approach combines traditional vineyard work with careful, relatively low-intervention winemaking. Figuero describes its philosophy as one of maximum respect and minimum intervention — allowing the vineyard and fruit to lead the wine rather than forcing a particular style in the cellar.
Figuero sits at the heart of the range: more developed and complex than the youthful Asomo, while retaining the freshness and fruit that make the family’s Tempranillo so appealing.
