Description
Aliats Blanco | DO Valencia, Spain
Organic
Vegan
If you’re looking for a fresh Spanish white that’s a little different from the usual suspects, Aliats Blanco is a great discovery. It’s made from 100% Verdil, a little-known local grape from Valencia that deserves far more attention.
Freshness is what you’ll notice first. Think lemon, lime, orange blossom and white peach, with a touch of Mediterranean herbs in the background. There’s also a gentle richness that gives the wine a little more body without making it heavy. The finish stays bright, clean and refreshing.
It’s an easy wine to enjoy, but certainly not boring. Serve it chilled on a sunny afternoon, open it with seafood or pair it with something lightly spicy. It’s also a lovely choice when you want to introduce friends to a Spanish grape they’ve probably never tried before.
There’s also a brilliant story behind the bottle. Aliats means “allies”, and those allies are bats. Bodegas Enguera encourages bats to live around its vineyards because a single bat can eat more than 1,000 insects in one night, helping control vineyard pests naturally. Even better, for every 100 bottles of Aliats sold, the winery commits to installing another bat shelter.

💎 Why We Love It
Because it’s different without being difficult.
Verdil isn’t a grape most people come across every day, yet there’s nothing challenging about drinking it. Aliats is fresh, fruity and incredibly easy to enjoy.
Add the story of the bats protecting the vineyards and suddenly you’ve got a bottle that’s also great fun to talk about around the table.
About the Producer
Bodegas Enguera is a family winery in Valencia with three generations behind it. The family has made caring for the environment a major part of how they work, rather than treating sustainability as something to put on the label.
Aliats came from the winery’s third generation. They wanted to create wines that were honest, approachable and simply enjoyable to drink while celebrating the landscape that produces them.
The bats became the perfect symbol. Instead of relying only on human intervention, the winery gives nature a helping hand and allows the bats to do what they do best—eat insects.
It’s a clever idea, but more importantly, it’s a real project. Every bottle of Aliats helps the winery continue installing bat shelters and protecting biodiversity around its vineyards.
