Description
Delit Monastrell | DO Alicante, Spain
Delit is a serious Monastrell with a surprisingly elegant side. Made from old, low-yielding vines in Salinas, it has the depth and ripe Mediterranean fruit you expect from Monastrell, but without becoming heavy or overpowering.
The grapes come from a single parcel of vines more than 50 years old, grown as traditional bush vines and completely dry-farmed. Production is naturally tiny — around just 1.5 kg of grapes per vine — allowing the fruit to reach full ripeness while keeping plenty of character.
In the glass, expect ripe red and dark fruit, with gentle spice, creamy notes and a subtle touch of pastry from its ageing on the lees. The oak is there, but it doesn’t dominate.
The palate is round, smooth and beautifully balanced. There is plenty of flavour, but the tannins are polished and the acidity keeps everything fresh. A long, savoury finish makes this a Monastrell to linger over rather than simply a big Mediterranean red.
It’s a lovely choice when you want something with depth and character but still genuinely enjoyable to drink.

A grown-up Monastrell without unnecessary heaviness. Old vines give it depth, while silky tannins and lovely freshness make it remarkably easy to enjoy.
About the Producer
Finca Collado is based in Salinas, Alicante, close to the Vinalopó Valley. The project is closely associated with winemaker Joan Guia, with a strong focus on showing the personality of this inland part of Alicante through its vineyards and traditional varieties.
Old vineyards are particularly important to the winery. Rather than chasing concentration for its own sake, Finca Collado looks for balance, freshness and wines that still feel pleasurable to drink.
Delit is their single-parcel expression of old-vine Monastrell. The vines are more than 50 years old, traditionally bush-trained and grown without irrigation. The naturally low yields give concentrated fruit, but the winemaking is deliberately gentle.
The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a relatively short maceration in open 600-litre barrels with gentle punch-downs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine moves into 500-litre French oak barrels, where it spends around 12 months ageing on its lees.
The result is exactly what Finca Collado sets out to achieve with Delit: Monastrell with depth and Mediterranean character, but also roundness, freshness and elegance.
