Description
Whispering Angel | Côtes de Provence, France
Whispering Angel hardly needs an introduction. It has become one of the world’s most recognisable Provence rosés — but behind the famous bottle is a wine that’s popular for a very simple reason: it’s extremely easy to enjoy.
Made primarily from Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino), with Syrah also forming part of the blend, it has that classic Provence combination of pale colour, delicate fruit and bone-dry freshness.
Expect fresh strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant, with a little peach, citrus and delicate floral character. The palate is smooth and rounded rather than sharp or watery, with bright acidity giving the wine plenty of freshness.
Everything is kept beautifully clean and precise. The grapes are harvested during the cooler hours, carefully sorted and gently pressed, while fermentation takes place entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Regular bâtonnage adds a little extra texture and softness without taking away from that fresh Provence style.
It’s dry, elegant and incredibly versatile — equally at home as an aperitif, beside a seafood lunch or simply properly chilled on a sunny afternoon.

💎 Why We Love It
There’s a reason Whispering Angel became such a phenomenon. Dry, silky and beautifully fresh, it’s Provence rosé that’s ridiculously easy to drink.
About the Producer
Château d’Esclans sits near La Motte in Provence, northeast of Saint-Tropez, and is the home of Whispering Angel.
The modern story really began when Sacha Lichine acquired the château in 2006 with an ambitious idea: to change the way people thought about rosé and prove that Provence could produce serious, premium wines.
Whispering Angel became the wine that took that idea around the world. Today, Château d’Esclans describes it as a worldwide reference for Provence rosé, and it has played a major role in turning pale Provence rosé into the international phenomenon it is today.
The grapes for Whispering Angel are sourced from carefully selected vineyards around the Esclans Valley and elsewhere within Côtes de Provence. Harvesting takes place during the cooler hours to preserve freshness. The fruit is then carefully sorted before gentle crushing and pressing under conditions designed to minimise oxidation.
Unlike the richer wines further up the Château d’Esclans range, Whispering Angel is made entirely in stainless steel. That helps preserve its fresh fruit and clean character, while regular lees stirring brings the smooth, silky texture that has become such an important part of its style.
The result is exactly what Whispering Angel promises: pale, dry, polished Provence rosé with enough character for the table and enough easy-going charm for a glass on the terrace.
