Description
Les Gadilles Rasteau | Rhône Valley, France
Les Gadilles is a rich, generous Southern Rhône red with plenty of ripe fruit, spice and warmth — but with enough freshness to keep everything beautifully balanced.
Made from Grenache and Syrah, it comes from Rasteau, just a few kilometres from the dramatic Dentelles de Montmirail. The vineyards grow on poor limestone and marl soils, producing naturally concentrated grapes with plenty of Mediterranean character.
The nose is full of ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum, with touches of spice, herbs and a subtle floral character. There’s plenty going on, but it remains inviting rather than overly serious.
On the palate, Les Gadilles is generous and rounded, with ripe dark fruit, smooth tannins and a lovely savoury edge. Importantly, there is no barrel ageing here — the wine spends 12 to 16 months in vats, keeping the fruit expressive and allowing the character of Grenache and Syrah to take centre stage.
This is exactly the sort of red to open when there’s something hearty on the table — full-flavoured, warming and extremely satisfying.

About the Producer
M. Chapoutier is one of the great names of the Rhône Valley, with family roots in the region stretching back generations.
The house’s story dates to 1808, while today it is particularly associated with Michel Chapoutier and his determination to let individual vineyards and soils speak through the wines. The family has now worked vineyards in the Rhône for eight generations.
Chapoutier is also one of the best-known advocates of biodynamic viticulture in France. Michel Chapoutier began applying biodynamic methods to the vineyards in 1991, long before biodynamics became fashionable in the wine world.
Rasteau lies in the Southern Rhône, with vineyards climbing across hillsides not far from the Dentelles de Montmirail. Les Gadilles comes from poor brown limestone soils over marl — exactly the sort of demanding ground that suits Grenache and Syrah.
The grapes are destemmed and spend around 15–21 days in vat during vinification. The wine then remains in vats for 12–16 months rather than being pushed towards an obviously oaky style.
The result is classic Rasteau: ripe, generous and structured, with plenty of Southern Rhône warmth and dark fruit.
