Description
12 Volts | VT Mallorca, Spain
🌿 Organic
12 Volts is an energetic and characterful Mediterranean red from 4Kilos Vinícola in Mallorca. It brings together the native Mallorcan varieties Callet and Fogoneu with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, creating a fresh, expressive wine that combines island identity with a modern approach to winemaking.
Callet and Fogoneu make up 60% of the blend and give 12 Volts its distinctly Mallorcan character. Syrah adds spice and depth, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot contribute structure and ripe fruit. The vineyards follow organic, low-intervention viticulture, with native vegetation helping maintain soil biodiversity and balance.
The team harvests all the grapes by hand. At the winery, they macerate and ferment the fruit in stainless-steel tanks, beginning fermentation at around 20°C and gradually allowing the temperature to rise to a maximum of 28°C. Maceration lasts approximately 20 days before the wine completes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel.
The wine then matures for 9 months. The winery uses a combination of large 3,000-litre foudres and second- and third-use 225-litre French oak barrels. This approach rounds the wine and adds complexity without overwhelming the freshness and personality of the fruit.
On the nose, 12 Volts combines ripe fruit with wild Mediterranean herbs, earthy notes, spice and a fresh balsamic character. The palate feels juicy, balanced and lively, with supple tannins, good freshness and a long, savoury finish.
12 Volts captures the unconventional spirit of 4Kilos beautifully — serious winemaking without unnecessary seriousness. Mediterranean, energetic and wonderfully drinkable, it offers a fascinating introduction to both the native grapes and contemporary wine culture of Mallorca.

About the Producer
4Kilos Vinícola began in Mallorca in 2006 when winemaker Francesc Grimalt and musician and creative director Sergio Caballero joined forces to create a very different kind of wine project.
The name 4Kilos comes from the founders’ original investment of four million pesetas — around €24,000. Their idea was simple: exceptional wine depends more on the quality of the grapes, knowledge and ambition than on building an extravagant winery. They famously produced their first vintage, 4Kilos 2006, in the garage of a fellow winegrower.
Francesc Grimalt had already played an important role in Mallorca’s modern wine scene and helped bring renewed attention to the native Callet grape. At 4Kilos, the team continues to champion indigenous Mallorcan varieties while combining them with carefully chosen international grapes.
Their approach focuses on the vineyard and adapts the winemaking to the character of each growing season rather than following a rigid recipe. Minimum-intervention viticulture, native vegetation and careful observation of the soils all form part of their approach.
12 Volts represents the more accessible side of the 4Kilos philosophy. Its name refers to an electrical energy accumulator: a wine designed, in the winery’s playful language, to connect with the nervous system and recharge your energy.
