Description
Aliats Tinto | DO Valencia, Spain
Organic
Vegan
Aliats Tinto is a distinctive Mediterranean red wine from Bodegas Enguera, created around an unusual idea: the alliance between people, vineyards and bats. The winery uses bats as natural allies in controlling grape moths, reducing the need for conventional pest-control treatments while encouraging biodiversity throughout the vineyard.
The wine combines Monastrell and Marselan, two varieties particularly well suited to the warm Mediterranean conditions of Valencia. Monastrell brings ripe fruit, Mediterranean character and structure, while Marselan contributes colour, aromatic intensity and freshness.
Bodegas Enguera created Aliats as part of its wider commitment to organic viticulture and sustainable vineyard management. Rather than treating biodiversity simply as a philosophy, the winery actively encourages bat populations by installing nesting boxes throughout its vineyards. The bats feed naturally on vineyard pests, creating a fascinating relationship between wildlife and viticulture.
In the glass, Aliats shows generous Mediterranean fruit alongside spice, herbs and a fresh, balanced structure. The palate feels juicy and approachable, with enough depth and character for the table without becoming heavy.
Aliats is much more than an eye-catching label. It tells the story of a winery using nature as an active partner in the vineyard and turning sustainability into something tangible in every bottle.

About the Producer
Bodegas Enguera is a family winery based in Enguera, Valencia, with additional vineyards in Fontanars dels Alforins. Sustainability and organic viticulture sit at the heart of the winery’s philosophy, with biodiversity playing an increasingly important role in the way the family manages its vineyards.
The winery has developed one of its most interesting environmental projects around bats. Working with researchers, Bodegas Enguera introduced bat nesting boxes into its vineyards to encourage native populations and study their ability to control grape moths naturally. The bats act as nocturnal vineyard guardians, feeding on insects and helping the winery reduce its reliance on other pest-control methods.
Aliats grew directly from this project. Its name means “allies” in Valencian, referring to the relationship between growers and bats and their shared role in maintaining a healthy vineyard ecosystem.
The third generation of the family launched the Aliats wines in 2020, bringing together two of their passions: ecology and comics. That combination explains both the environmental story behind the wine and its striking graphic label.
Aliats turns Bodegas Enguera’s sustainability work into something you can actually put on the table — a Mediterranean wine with personality, provenance and a genuinely interesting story behind the bottle.
