Description
The Maturana Piconada | DO Rioja, Spain
La Piconada Maturana is a distinctive single-varietal Rioja red crafted by Bodegas Diez del Corral in Rioja Alta , produced exclusively from 100% Maturana Tinta — one of Rioja’s rarest native grape varieties. Representing only a tiny percentage of vineyard plantings in the region, Maturana is valued for its freshness, deep colour, aromatic intensity and elegant structure.
The grapes come from vineyards located in the cooler Atlantic-influenced area of La Obarenia , near the village of Anguciana , where limestone-rich soils and strong day-to-night temperature variation help preserve acidity and aromatic complexity.
Following fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for approximately 13 months in oak barrels , allowing the grape’s naturally vibrant character to integrate with subtle notes of spice and toast without overpowering the fruit.
On the nose, La Piconada Maturana displays aromas of blackberries, wild herbs, violets, dark cherries and subtle sweet spice. The palate is elegant and structured with vibrant acidity, silky tannins and a long, refined finish. The naturally fresh profile of Maturana gives the wine a more lifted and modern expression while still maintaining classic Rioja elegance.
This is a unique Rioja wine for those looking to explore one of the region’s forgotten indigenous grapes in a polished and contemporary style.

A rare opportunity to experience one of Rioja’s oldest native grapes in a modern, elegant and beautifully balanced expression.
About the Producer
Bodegas Diez del Corral is located in Anguciana , in the heart of Rioja Alta , just a few kilometers from Haro. The Diez del Corral family has been connected to Rioja winemaking since 1880 , combining deep regional heritage with a modern vision focused on elegance, authenticity and indigenous varieties.
The winery is especially recognized for its work with Maturana Tinta , one of Rioja’s rarest historical grapes. While most Rioja producers focus almost entirely on Tempranillo, Bodegas Diez del Corral has invested heavily in recovering and preserving Maturana, helping reintroduce the variety into contemporary Rioja winemaking.
Their vineyards are located in the cooler area known as La Obarenia , between the Montes Obarenes and the Valle del Tirón , where Atlantic influence, limestone soils and cooler nights create wines with freshness, aromatic complexity and aging potential.
Rather than overpowering the wines with heavy oak, the winery focuses on balance and fruit purity, producing elegant Rioja wines that respect tradition while offering something more distinctive and personal. La Piconada Maturana perfectly reflects this philosophy — rare, expressive and unmistakably Rioja.
