Description

Pureza Moscatel Ánfora | DO Alicante, Spain

Pureza is a dry, skin-contact Moscatel from the Marina Alta. Pepe Mendoza created it as a modern tribute to the old brisat wines once made along Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Today, this style is often called orange or amber wine.

The wine is made from 100% Moscatel de Alejandría grown around Pla de Llíber, Abargues and Benimei. The grapes come from dry-farmed vineyards, including old vines planted in 1943 on clay-rich soils with limestone stones.

The winemaking is deliberately simple and traditional. The must ferments with the grape skins and native vineyard yeasts in small clay amphorae. There are no added enzymes, no acid correction and no clarification before fermentation. Gentle hand work keeps the skins moving during the process. Afterwards, Pureza spends around six months in amphora, which gives the wine texture and depth without adding oak flavour.

Pureza is aromatic, but it is also dry and structured. Rose petals, orange peel, citrus and white flowers lead into herbal notes of chamomile and mountain tea. The palate is broad and fresh, with gentle grip, mineral character and a saline finish that reflects its Mediterranean origin.

This is not a conventional Moscatel. It is savoury, expressive and made for the table. It also has enough structure to develop beautifully in bottle.

About the Producer

Pepe Mendoza Casa Agrícola is based at Finca Abargues in Pla de Llíber, in Alicante’s Marina Alta. The estate includes historic dry-farmed vineyards of native Mediterranean varieties, planted on old terraces supported by traditional stone walls. Some vines date back to the first half of the twentieth century.

After decades working in Alicante, Pepe Mendoza created Casa Agrícola as a more personal, small-scale project. His focus is on native grapes, old vineyards, dry farming and minimal intervention. Rather than forcing an international style onto the wines, the aim is to let Alicante’s landscape, climate and traditions shape every bottle.

Pureza captures that philosophy especially well. It revives the local tradition of brisat wines while using careful modern winemaking to preserve freshness, balance and precision. The result feels rooted in the past, but completely relevant today.
