Description

Almoroig Graciano | Alicante, Spain

Almoroig Graciano is a wonderfully expressive red from Celler La Muntanya, made entirely from Graciano — a grape more often found playing a supporting role in Spanish blends, but here it gets the bottle all to itself.

And it certainly has plenty to say. The nose is elegant and inviting, with blueberries and violets alongside a touch of Mediterranean herbs and spice. Give it a little time in the glass and darker, warmer aromas begin to appear.

The palate is smooth and generous, combining fresh and candied fruit with delicious hints of roasted coffee, gentle tobacco smoke, caramel and toasted bread. Despite all that flavour, it remains fresh and beautifully balanced rather than feeling heavy.

The wine spends 6 months in 500-litre French oak barrels followed by another 12 months in larger wooden vats, giving it complexity and a rounded texture while allowing the fruit and distinctive character of Graciano to shine through.

With only 1,250 bottles produced, this is a lovely find for anyone who enjoys discovering something a little different. Elegant, characterful and very easy to linger over, it is the sort of bottle that can make a long dinner even longer.

💎 Why We Love It

Graciano rarely gets the spotlight all to itself, and that’s exactly what makes this bottle so interesting. Aromatic, smooth and full of character — and with only 1,250 bottles produced, it’s a rather special little find.

About the Producer

Celler La Muntanya is a small winery based in Muro de Alcoy, Alicante, with a very different approach to wine. Rather than simply producing a conventional range from large vineyard holdings, the winery has spent years helping to preserve the small vineyards, grape varieties and wine-growing traditions of the mountainous interior of Alicante.

Its philosophy is closely linked to Microviña, a project built around working with local growers and small vineyard plots. The idea helps give economic value back to vineyards that might otherwise disappear, while protecting the extraordinary diversity of grapes still found in this part of the Mediterranean.

That makes the Almoroig range particularly fun to explore. Instead of hiding individual varieties inside blends, many of the wines give one grape the opportunity to show exactly what it can do. The current red collection includes Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Moristel and Graciano alongside limited special editions.

With Almoroig Graciano, the winery takes a variety traditionally valued for adding freshness, aroma and character to other wines and makes it the star. Celler La Muntanya describes Graciano as both complex and entertaining, with considerable potential for the future.

Production is also genuinely small. Just 1,250 bottles are made, making Almoroig Graciano a great example of the individual, small-scale wines that make Celler La Muntanya such an interesting producer to discover.
