Description

Salicornio Malvasía | DO Alicante, Spain

🌿 Organic   🌱 Vegan

Salicornio Malvasía is a distinctive white wine from Casa Balaguer–Vinessens, crafted to reflect the Mediterranean landscape of Alicante. Named after the salicornia plant, which naturally grows in salty coastal soils, this wine perfectly captures the mineral and saline character that defines its unique terroir.

Made from 100% Malvasía, the grapes come from a carefully selected vineyard in La Mata, where naturally saline soils give the wine its unmistakable identity. The grapes are harvested by hand before undergoing a gentle five-day skin maceration. Fermentation begins spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks, after which the skins are removed halfway through the process. The wine then matures for five months on its fine lees beneath a natural veil of flor, adding remarkable texture, complexity and depth while preserving freshness.

The nose is expressive, offering aromas of citrus fruits, peach, orange peel and delicate floral notes. On the palate it is full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, combining vibrant acidity with a pronounced saline minerality that lingers long after each sip. The finish is dry, textured and unmistakably Mediterranean.

Salicornio Malvasía is a wine for curious drinkers. It combines traditional Mediterranean winemaking with a modern, natural approach, resulting in a white wine that is both complex and incredibly food-friendly.

About the Producer

Casa Balaguer–Vinessens is one of Alicante’s leading producers of low-intervention wines. Founded on a philosophy of respecting nature and expressing terroir, the winery works exclusively with organically farmed vineyards and native Mediterranean varieties. Native yeasts, spontaneous fermentations and minimal intervention allow every wine to tell the story of its vineyard rather than the cellar.

The estate is located near Villena, where altitude, limestone soils and the influence of the Mediterranean create ideal conditions for elegant, characterful wines. Traditional techniques such as fermentation in concrete and ageing under a natural veil of flor are combined with modern precision to produce wines with purity, freshness and an unmistakable sense of place. Salicornio Malvasía is one of the finest examples of this philosophy, delivering authenticity in every bottle.
