Description

Beberás de la Copa de tu Hermana | DO Valencia, Spain

The name alone should tell you that this isn’t going to be an ordinary bottle of white wine.

Beberás de la Copa de tu Hermana comes from the tiny Fil·loxera & Cía winery in Fontanars dels Alforins, one of Valencia’s most exciting wine-growing areas. It’s a characterful Mediterranean white made from a fascinating mix of local grapes, including Verdil, Macabeo, Monastrell and Malvasía.

And yes — Monastrell really is in this white wine. That’s part of what makes it so interesting.

In the glass, this is richer than your typical light Spanish white. You’ll find ripe pear and stone fruit, delicate white flowers and a touch of Mediterranean herbs. There’s freshness too, so despite having plenty of flavour and texture, it never feels heavy.

This is a brilliant wine for the table. It has enough character to stand up to food, but you certainly don’t need dinner as an excuse to open it. If you like discovering wines that are genuinely different while still being very easy to enjoy, this is one to try.

💎 Why We Love It

Firstly, how could you walk past a bottle called Beberás de la Copa de tu Hermana and not want to know what it tastes like?

But the wine inside is every bit as interesting as the name. Local grapes, a tiny producer and even a little Monastrell in a white wine make this something completely different from your everyday Spanish blanco.

Most importantly, though, it’s delicious. There’s plenty to talk about if you want the story, but you don’t need to understand any of it to enjoy the glass.

About the Producer

Fil·loxera & Cía isn’t your typical winery. It began in 2011 when three friends — José Doménech, Pilar Esteve and Joan Llobell — brought together their different talents and a shared love of wine. Their home is Fontanars dels Alforins, an inland corner of Valencia surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and Mediterranean countryside.

They work on a very small scale, selecting grapes from individual vineyard plots rather than chasing large production. Their wines celebrate the grapes and personality of their part of Valencia, including varieties that don’t often get much attention elsewhere.

There’s also a wonderfully playful side to Fil·loxera. Names such as Beberás de la Copa de tu Hermana, Sentada Sobre la Bestia and El Cordero y las Vírgenes make that fairly obvious. These are serious wines, but the people behind them don’t believe wine itself always needs to be terribly serious.

And frankly, we rather like that.
