Triga Chardonnay | DO Alicante, Spain

Triga Chardonnay is a serious, barrel-fermented white from Bodegas Volver, made from 100% Chardonnay grown high in the mountains of Alicante.

The grapes come from Finca El Paredón, at around 700 metres above sea level. The altitude and limestone-rich soils help preserve freshness despite Alicante’s warm Mediterranean climate.

The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in French oak barrels. The wine then spends around 6 months in oak, with bâtonnage adding extra texture and richness.

Expect ripe peach and tropical fruit alongside floral notes, toasted nuts and subtle oak. The palate is creamy and generous, yet fresh acidity keeps everything beautifully balanced.

This is Chardonnay for anyone who enjoys a richer style. It has plenty of body and character, but enough freshness to remain elegant and incredibly food-friendly.

About the Producer

Bodegas Volver is the project of winemaker and viticulturist Rafael Cañizares, whose family has been involved with vineyards and winemaking for four generations.

Based in Pinoso, Alicante, the winery focuses on distinctive Mediterranean vineyards, including old vines and high-altitude sites. Poor limestone soils, dry conditions and significant differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures help produce wines with both concentration and freshness.

Although Bodegas Volver is particularly well known for its Mediterranean reds, Triga Chardonnay shows another side of the winery. Here, high-altitude Chardonnay and French oak create a rich, polished white that still retains plenty of freshness.
