El Tramposo La Bizca Godello | DO Valdeorras, Spain

El Tramposo La Bizca is a beautifully fresh and expressive 100% Godello from DO Valdeorras, one of Galicia’s great regions for this increasingly popular Spanish white grape.

Godello is one of those wines that can please both sides of the table. It has plenty of freshness, but it isn’t sharp or aggressively acidic; there is lovely fruit, but it isn’t overly aromatic. La Bizca brings together fresh apple, citrus and stone fruit with subtle floral notes and the mineral character so often associated with Valdeorras.

The wine is aged on its lees, which gives it a little extra body and that lovely creamy, silky texture without taking away from its freshness. There is also a subtle saline quality running through the wine, making every sip feel clean and refreshing.

If you normally drink Albariño but fancy something with a little more texture and body, this is a fantastic bottle to try. And the slightly mischievous El Tramposo story behind the label makes it even easier to remember.

About the Producer

Vinos Divertidos does things rather differently. Instead of presenting wine with lots of formality and complicated terminology, its collections use colourful names, characters and stories to make Spanish wine more approachable and memorable.

El Tramposo is built around a fictional band of rather questionable characters, with each wine introducing another member of the gang. La Bizca is described as the great-niece of El Tramposo, who supposedly ran a clandestine spirits business and used the gang to smuggle liquor. She also apparently hid her romance with El Zurdo because she feared El Tramposo’s reaction — which is considerably more fun to tell a customer than fermentation temperatures!

Behind the playful presentation, however, this is a proper regional wine: 100% Godello from DO Valdeorras, made to show the grape’s characteristic freshness, texture and mineral personality.
